| J. D.'s family boasted several
artists (either painters or sculptors) among his members. Two
of them are quite famous: Théophile Deyrolle and Alfred Guillou.
The former was J.D.'s grand-father. He was bom in 1844
in Paris and died in 1923 in Concameau.
A pupil of Cabanel and Bouguereau, he began to show " After Fishing
" and 'Breton Romance " at the 1876 Salon. It is to him that
we owe a great number of paintings on Brittany and particularly on
the area of Concameau.

Alfred Guillou, J.D.'s great-uncle,
who was bom in 1844 and died in 1925 in Concameau, was also a pupil
of Cabanel. As soon as 1867, he showed " Young Breton fisherman
" at the Salon. Since they shared the same studio, Deyrolle
and Guillou made friends. Théophile married Alfred's
sister, Suzanne and a son, Etienne who was J.D.'s father.
The works of the two brother-in-laws is well represented in French
museums, even in foreign ones (see Benezit dictionary). |
