From December 1962
to February 1964, J.D. submitted to the experience of the "
conscious dream " under the control of his usual doctor, Doctor Jacques
Deniau. It lasted about ten sessions.
| " The controlled conscious dream, an intermediate
state, slightly different, between waking and sleeping, between
the physiological and the " psychic " is by essence the reflection
of the inexhaustible wealth of anguish, fears, wishes and hopes
accumulated by the subject since his birth which remain in any
case in relation to the outside world the deciding factors in
his behaviour. " [Robert Desoille.
Theorie et pratiques du rêve eveillé dirigé,
Genève : éditions du Mont-Blanc, 1961, p. 10]. |

Besides the personal
benefits he gained from it, this " trial " also had a certain impact
on J.D.'s work. A whole series of pantings showed anthropomorphic
figures, just before the fifth and last period during which J.D.
synthesized his earlier researches.
