KANDINSKY (The Prize) .

The Kandinsky Prize was created by Nina Kandinsky in memory of her husband, a pioneer in abstraction, who died in 1944.  It aimed at " crowning the work of young painters committed in pure abstract art ". Léon Degand, Charles Estienne, Wilhelm Uhde sat on the jury.  The Prize was won for the first time in

1946 by J.D. (and Dewasne).  The following winners were in chronological order: Poliakoff, Max Bill and Jean Leppien, Marie Raymond and Chapoval, Mortensen, Degottex, Palazuelo, Istrati, Dumitresco, Chillida and Dorazio.
