| In the beginning of 1946, Dominicans
put some premises they owned, 15 rue Cujas at Domela's
disposal who founded immediately the " Centre de Recherche ". Out
of the five group exhibitions organized from February to July,
J.D. participated in two of them. There would always be
a painter on duty to welcome visitors. Moreover, Dewasne,
Charles Estienne, Leon
Degand, Herbin, Madeleine Rousseau, Wilhem
Uhde, gave lectures on abstract art. All these artistic
events, rather unusual in the Quartier Latin where there were no
art galleries, attracted a great number of people, rather young,
who discovered this new concept of painting (see. § Abstraction).
At that time, the Opéra publisher printed a group album containing
a lithograph in black by every artist, Herbin excepted.
